What Is Stroke

by Any Safarodiyah

A STROKE is a “brain attack”, it is a syndrome caused by interrupted blood flow in the brain, either by blockage or rupture of vessel supplying blood to the brain. This syndrome is typified by immediate and rapid-developing signs of disturbance of brain function lasting 24 hours or more, or leading to death. It may result in damage to the brain and then result in permanent disability and handicaps.

Different parts of the brain control different body function. Some parts of our brain control our ability to move arms and legs. Other parts control our ability to see. Other parts control the ability to talk or to understand speech. When a stroke damages a brain, the injured part of the brain is unable to send messages to the part of the body it used to control. So, a stroke can lead to speech problems, paralysis, coma, and dementia depending on the area of the brain affected.

A STROKE is a common cause of death and the most frequent cause of adult disability throughout the world. In the United States, Canada and Japan, stroke is the third leading CAUSE OF DEATH after heart disease and all forms of cancer.
